In recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in tensile structures due to the ease of simulating them in a digital environment, but there is still much work to be done on simplifying the process from an idea to fabrication. The workshop aims to make a case for use of empirical data gathering through experimental physical prototypes and then transferring that knowledge through digital tools using Rhino & Grasshopper. As a result the digital model will deliver all the necessary information for fabrication of these structures using take home DIY kits that will be provided at the end of the workshop.
Author’s Biography:
Jelena Pepic is a teaching assistant at the University of Novi Sad, Department of Architecture with a focus on computation-based approaches in design and fabrication. As a PhD student her research considers diverse applications of lightweight tensile structures. She was a part of the organizing committee for eCAADe2021 as well as a participant at workshops such as Designing of emergency shelters 2018, Shell Puzzle 2019, ID Pavilion 2020 and Terracotta panels project in 2022.

Requirements: Participants should bring their laptops with Rhinoceros 6 or 7 installed as well as Kangaroo add-on for Grasshopper. All equipment for on-site experimental model making is provided for.
